On May 8th I wrote a post called "End-time Economy" and you should read it again. Little did I know in May that America's economy would begin to meltdown within a few months. I've been following the news closely for weeks intrigued by what is happening in our nation. Things are happening faster than I ever imagined. The government we all trusted to protect us and make the right choices has failed us. Instead of taking the time to find the right solution, our politicians are blaming one another and panicing to find a quick fix.
There isn't a quick fix for our economic crisis. For years our nation, and the people who are its citizens, have lived above our means by the means of credit. Living on credit is fun until the day comes when your debt is higher than your revenue, and the cost of living drastically increases. I made the statement in May that EVERYTHING is riding on the oil barrel, because EVERYTHING that comes to us is fueled by gasoline. When the price of gas soared at the pumps we suddenly found ourselves putting all our money into our gas tanks. We go to buy groceries only to discover that the box of cereal that used to cost $2.50 now costs $3.50, and that percentage of inflation is passed on to every item in our buggies.
Our budgets consisted of taking our weekly salaries and subtracting our debt payments and having maybe $200 or so left over each week to buy groceries, gas, entertainment, and other living expeneses. Before the energy crisis this budget was managable, but now the same amount of money goes only a fraction of the distance it did just a year ago. And now as we enter the month of October in the midst of the worst economic crisis our nation has ever faced, we find ourselves wondering what's next. How bad are things going to get before this stops? How much longer will I have a job? Will my retirement funds be safe? Will I be able to keep my home? Are we about to experience The Great Depression Part II?
The possibilities are endless! I could never explain them all. Let me summarize everything by saying that this economic crisis will be used to set the stage for the end time prophecies of the Bible to be fulfilled. Here are my observations from following the crisis...
1. The Economic Bailout Plan that Congress & the Senate just passed is a step closer to socialism, and American having to depend on other nations to survive. The government will have more control and influence over us. The days of capitalism are nearing a end. This bailiout plan will NOT solve our issues. Living above our means got us in this mess and only living beneath our means will get us out.
2. Man is not going to solve this problem. Neither John McCain, nor Barrack Hussian Obamma will be able to fix this mess. We shouldn't put our trust in man. The economic crash of America may be the vehicle of getting us to surrender our nation to the "one-world economy" and "one-world order" that the Bible predicts will come. Let us keep in mind that these two senators were part of the problem in the first place. Don't vote for one of these guys because you think they will be able to solve our problems.
3. The stage is set for the tribulation to begin. The Bible speaks of the endtime world being in chaos, and a leader emerging who wins the heart of the people with his smooth way of talking, and having the answers people are looking for. The Tribulation is marked by a ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT, ONE-WORLD ECONOMY, ONE-WORLD RELIGION, ONE-WORLD MONEY SYSTEM, AND A ONE-WORLD LEADER CALLED THE ANTI-CHRIST. I'm not saying this is IT, but it could be the big one. If this is not IT, then what is happening right before our eyes is rapidly setting things up for the Great Tribulation to begin.
At this point anything could happen. America's crisis is having an effect on many other nations as well. Now the question arises to the follower's of Christ as to how we are to handle the present crisis. I have three thoughts on this...
1. Focus on God. For the past 6-weeks I have been preaching a message series called "Who Is God" that teaches us the many names of God in Scripture. This series is helping us focus on God, rather than dwell on things around us. In this time of crisis, we need to turn our eyes upon Him, because dwelling on all the negative will only depress us and stress us out.
2. Spend Wisely. Stop living above your means! Save money and stop wasting it. Invest in the work of God, and you will be storing treasure up in heaven. Stop using credit unless you can pay the balance by the end of the month. This economic storm was preceeded by warnings for the past 10 years from many preachers, and secular economic specialists. We ignored them and now are finding ourselves in the middle of the storm unprepared. Our lifestyle needs to change from materialism and greed to wisdom and caution.
3. Don't panic. Our politicians are doing just that and I predict they will discover that the bailout plan will only make matters worse. We cannot enter into panic mode and make impulsive decsions motivated by fear and worry.
I want to speak more on this and welcome your questions...
About Relevance
- Michael Burgner
- Cleveland, Tennessee, United States
- With all the modern terms used to describe culture and the modern church I like to simplify things and just say RELEVANCE! We're living in a Post-Christian or Post-Modern culture in America and many label modern churches as emergent and leaders as emerging. The term emergent is a bit confusing though it means "rising, up & coming, or promising." I like to say we're relevant! Relevant to what? Relevant to 21st century culture. I am determined to present the Gospel to 21st century post-christian culture and be effective in doing so. God used me in the 20th century to reach that culture and I celebrate what the church did in the last century. However, I refuse to replace relevance for religion. Whatever it takes to make the Gospel of Jesus Christ relevant to the 21st century, that is what I'm willing to do. My childhood was spend as the son of a pastor, and I became a preacher at the age of 18. I've been married since 1987 and have a boy and a girl.
